earthquake_japan_nov2016_cNovember 21, 2016 – A 7.3 Magnitude earthquake was recorded off of the east coast of Japan today. This is a major event that started at 3:59 PM EST or 5:59 AM Tuesday November 22 local time by Honshu, Japan. This is the same area where the April 11, 2011 quake hit that damaged the Fukushima nuclear power plant and produced a deadly tsunami. That event was a 6.6M.

earthquake_japan_nov2016_fAccording the US Geologic Survey, the preliminary report was 6.9 M but 7.3 seems to be the going measurement. It was located 37 km east southeast of Namie, Japan.

A local tsunami warning was issued for the Fukushima Perfecture and advisories fore the rest of the western Japanese coast… posted below. There has been no widespread tsunami warnings for the rest of the Pacific including Hawaii or the west coast of the US/Canada.
