Friday June 18 2021

This morning has started off with cool and crisp air again, but this afternoon will warm up. We should hold off storms until tonight, but we may seen an increase in clouds because of a severe storm complex in the Ohio Valley.

More late storms possible Saturday and Fathers Day as it will feel more like summer again. Then next week we watch the influence of a potential tropical storm (Claudette) in the southeast US.

Severe Storm Risk Today

Morning Surface Weather

High Pressure remains in control, but it will be pushed out of the way and switch our winds today.

That complex of storms in the Great Lakes will be the main focus today, and will send clouds our way long before the risk of rain.

Plan for cirrus clouds to lead to fading sunshine. You may see a fire rainbow in he sky early in the afternoon, and a solar halo or sundog this afternoon.

Saturday:

Temps will be warmer along with increased humidity.

Our chance of storms will be more widespread, but not severe.

We are more likely to see that round late in the day or again at night.

 Looking Ahead

Tropical Storm Claudette may get named today in the Gulf of Mexico, then make landfall on Louisiana tonight.

This storm will pass to our south, but will send two impacts to our region.

  1. Ripples in the atmosphere will help trigger more storms our way
  2. Additional tropical moisture will feed into the next cold front.

Result: Weekend storms we get will NOT be part of this tropical system, but as it passes to our south, then off of the coast.. It will help enhance our storm risk Monday and especially Tuesday.

Sunshine State Of Mind

I am done with the cold and snow (for the season). I am embracing my wife’s mantra of Sunshine State of Mind.

This was designed by Shannon Berk and we will be wearing it through spring and to the beach.

Double Benefit: Proceeds will be split between our nonprofit Just In Power Kids and the development of my new weather website. That has been scheduled to be ready to launch in May.
