Monday May 17 2021
We are in the transition of weather and it will be changing fast. This morning we have areas of dense fog, especially where there was rain yesterday.
Dense Fog Advisory
The counties included are where visibility is under 1 mile.
However there are areas of dense fog farther east and in metro areas. For most, this will lift and dissipate between 7 AM and 9 AM.
The sun will break out a little this afternoon, then we shift to a big warm up during the week. Summer temperatures on the way in a few days.
Morning Surface Weather
It may look like high Pressure is in control, but it has trapped low level moisture from rain yesterday. That is the early fog that will disperse as the sun gets higher in the sky.
Weather Almanac: Climate Data For Baltimore
Normal Low in Baltimore: 52ºF; Record 33ºF in 1956
Normal High in Baltimore: 74ºF, Record 93ºF 2017
Temperature Forecast
Getting back to near 70ºF will depend on how much sun can break through the low clouds we have this morning.

Afternoon
This is the beginning of the big warm up.
Summer Preview
The Jet Stream will set up strong ridge in the eastern US. This will allow temps to surge up close to 90ºF by the end of the week.
Rain Animation
The ridge ‘may’ break down by the end of the week. I want to point out that this is from the GFS Model, showing afternoon showers and T’storms with the heat Friday to Sunday. However the European ECWMF Model keeps the ridge intact through next weekend. That hold the heat and limit storms for us.
7 Day Forecast
I am going with the GFS model version for now. But as with any outlook, please consider there may be a change to next weekend than what you see now.
Sunshine State Of Mind
I am done with the cold and snow (for the season). I am embracing my wife’s mantra of Sunshine State of Mind.
This was designed by Shannon Berk and we will be wearing it through spring and to the beach.
Double Benefit: Proceeds will be split between our nonprofit Just In Power Kids and the development of my new weather website. That has been scheduled to be ready to launch in May.
