May 12 Wednesday Weather Still Seeing Snow And Frost

The morning weather map is dominated by a southern rain event, while cool air flows into our region again. However, the local radar is showing snow across the West Virginia and Virginia border, while temps in western Maryland are down to freezing.

A warm up is on the way and it will be noticed by this weekend.

Snow flurries seen between Snowshoe and Brandywine, WV. No stickage as far as I have seen, but seeing it this deep in May is enough, right?

Rain showers down the mountain in Harrisonburg and Staunton, VA.

Morning Temperatures

Local temps bottomed out in the mid to lower 40s. There have been some 30s on thermometers between these reporting stations.

Western Maryland and West Virginia have temps near freezing this morning.

Southern Maryland starts in the 50s thanks to cloud cover holding their temps up overnight.

A gradual improvement today. Clearing from the north, but an overcast morning for some should improve this afternoon in Virginia and southern Maryland.

We will continue to monitor the possible 6th attempt for NASA to launch the rocket at Wallops Island.

No widespread rain events, but afternoon showers possible Friday and Sunday. Preakness Saturday looks pretty good.

We may get urban areas back to 70ºF this weekend. Next week we see a signal of even warm air returning.
