Tropical Depression 15 Forms Off East Coast May Be Named Nana

Barely catching their breath from the busy week with Marco and the Hurricane Laura landfall, the National Hurricane Center has formerly identified a new storm off of the US East Coast.  Tropical Depression 15 has formed off of the coast, south of the front that is bringing us rain today.   This is over the warm water of the Gulf Stream, which should allow this to grow rapidly, and become a tropical storm tonight.

The good news is that there are no warnings at this time and it should continue to stay over water.

Top winds = 35 mph. This is likely to grow and be upgraded to a Tropical Storm and named Nana before midnight.

This closer view shows the developing circulation east of South Carolina. This may not look like much as the cloud structure is not solid our the air flow. But this is expected to solidify a little over the next 12 to 24 hours.

This may show the flare up around the core Low a little better. It also shows the overall flow from west to east will continue to carry this over the ocean and away from land.

Forecast Maps

The general agreement of the computer model guidance is to move this offshore. A storm we call a ‘fish’ never reaching land. The TAB product curve it back around, but that is not seen as viable at this time.

The National Hurricane Center has this as a tropical storm tonight, and continues to move this out into the open Atlantic. A Fish storm.
