Heavy rain and flooding this weekend continues the trend of weather this year as we added yet another rain record in Baltimore. Saturday brought 2.24″ of rain to BWI making that the wettest December 15th on record almost doubling the old mark of 1.35″ set in 1948. This added to our yearly total and we may have a chance of breaking 70 inches before the end of the year.

Today’s Weather

The Low Pressure will be a slow move as the upper level circulation will pivot through. Drizzle will trend to more legitimate rain showers through the day. It will be wet and turning chilly for the Ravens game. Colder air will move in during the day, so highs were already reached the morning. This will eventually cut off the rain, but there could be some snow flakes mixing in near the PA line and we should watch the temperatures Monday morning

Near freezing north of Baltimore and across Southern Pennsylvania. Some of these areas will need to be monitored for possible road ice.

Looking Ahead

Another storm at the end if the work week will have some colder air to work with. We need to consider that modeling is NOT PERFECT 5 days out away… Any short to the east or south and we could increase our potential for mixing in more wintery precipitation. There already appears to be some snow potential in the mountains Friday night and Saturday.

Despite the high temp in the upper 50s on Friday, that does not eliminate the potential snow threat
