A large earthquake about 175 miles southeast of Kodiak Alaska struck early this morning, 1:31 AM PST (4:31 AM EST). It was downgraded from initial reports to a 7.9 Magnitude. It was relatively shallow at 15 miles depth, which triggered a Tsunami Warning for Alaska and Canada to the Washington State Coast, and a Tsunami Watch for the west coast of the US down through central California. A tsunami wave was detected, but appears to be smaller than what was feared. The latest info below…

Note: Multiple aftershocks over 5.0 M have already been detected. This is normal for a quake of this size, and can last for a few days.
