Wednesday November 15
This morning starts off again with patchy frost, fog, and plenty of freezing temperatures. This is not the same fall as last year as we have a very active pattern and building cold air ready to surge in over the next week. There will be a round of rain tonight, followed by a windy day tomorrow and snow showers in the mountains. A larger storm on Saturday will be followed by stronger and colder winds on Sunday as flurries could make it in parts of the area. The next storm will be around Thanksgiving and the cold will hold.
First, let’s look at today…

Windy Thursday:
Gusts over 30 mph and snow showers in the mountains. This shows the wind flow aloft at 850 mb.
Weekend: Next Storm
We will have rain develop on Saturday. Colder air on Sunday will bring snow showers and flurries close. It will be tough travel into Western Maryland and near Pittsburgh in PA Sunday.

Outlook: Thanksgiving
I don’t think the models have a good handle on that storm. So I am waiting another day to show the surface views. I would plan for rain (or snow) Wednesday and Thursday. But the jet stream aloft will definitely tap into the arctic flow and bring in cold air. This pattern promises an early winter feel to the air.
Temperature Outlook
The tendency for this model outlook is to run a little warm. So I believe we could actually spend Thanksgiving in the 30s.
