Saturday September 23

On this first day of Fall we have stepped backwards into summer. Once again we will have high temps in the mid 80s and could approach 90ºF on Sunday. High Pressure and sunshine are holding the remains of Jose offshore. Sunfest in Ocean City will continue to have high surf and tip currents. So those that still have their pools open may be the lucky ones. This late heat wave is about 10 degrees above our normal high of 75ºF for this date. However  it is not even close to the historic heat wave of 1970. This is part of a 4 day stretch that year that reached the upper 90s, so we will not get any records this time around.

Temperature Outlook

Our temperatures will remain warm into the middle of next week. The same air mass that will cool us down should push Maria away from the east coast.

Hurricane Maria

Today is the first day in over a week that there are no warnings for this Hurricane Maria. It is spinning over the open ocean, but will be tracking closer to the US coast next week. The winds are 120 mph, so it is still a Category 3 storm.

Our Jet Stream: Getting Cooler and Steering Maria

The unseasonably warm weather we have now is because of this heat ridge in the atmosphere far north into Canada.

Maria will get close to Cape Hatteras, but the ridge will break down as cooler air heads our way

By Next Weekend

Cooler air will dominate and push Maria into the north Atlantic. Our highs will likely be 15 to 20 degrees cooler with many in the 60s

Forecast Intensity

Maria will get weaker as it moves north and interacts with the jet stream
