3 PM Tuesday September 19

The update from the National Hurricane Center has Maria with increased winds to 165 mph and maintaining Category 5 status. At this point the storm is a beast and will bring an onslaught of destruction in the path that will rival what Irma had done in her path. This time the US territories will take the hit.

Below is the latest information, but I do want to point out the size of the worst conditions is rather small.  Hurricane force winds are 35 miles from the center. That means the winds go from 160 mph to 75 mph across that spread. Tropical Storm Force winds extend 140 miles away from the center. So locations  over 40 miles away from the eye will have winds range from 73 mph to 40 mph up to a larger area.  However, the strong storm surge and wind field will be part of that larger field.
