Friday July 21
There is no way to sugar coat today. It will be painfully hot again as we aim for the upper 90s with heat index values above 100ºF. There will once again be a small chance of thunderstorms, but less than 20% of our region will see that. However, the ridge slips a little tomorrow getting us into the zone for more widespread storms that could become severe. Then we look to the ridge breaking down and a pattern shift next week. The modeling has not fully caught up with the temperature adjustment, but I believe most will enjoy the change this time next week. Here’s a look at the maps below:
Notes:
98ºF Thursday’s High at BWI
87ºF Normal High today
104ºF Record High in 1930

8:28 PM Sunset

Saturday:
We will be in the Slight Risk for severe storms. The best time will likely be after 2 PM until the evening. Yes, the Delmarva and beaches could get in on some of the action surviving the trip east.

Check out the Jet Stream showing the ridge breaking down and shifting the heat back west. A trough will send cooler temps our way next week. The set up suggests a wind off of the water making for much cooler weather at the beaches, but strong rip currents as well.
