Thursday July 20

The plain and ugly truth is that there is not much good about the weather today. Baltimore hit 96ºF yesterday, and the heat is building along with the humidity and pollution today! A Heat Advisory has been issued for urban areas between Washington and Baltimore. The Philadelphia area is under an Excessive Heat Warning. These areas will have heat index values over 100ºF. The suburbs not shaded will still feel very uncomfortable, but might just fall below the threshold for this advisory.

Notes:

96ºF  Tuesday’s High at BWI

87ºF Normal High today

102ºF Record High for July 20 was set in 1930

Air Quality Alert

There is also a Code Orange for much of the region based on building pollution that can be irritating to those with sensitive breathing issues.

Storm Risk?

Once again the best chance for storms developing and growing into severe limits will be well northwest. But that does not rule out isolated chance for us (20%)

Scattered Storms: Radar Simulation —> slider

Due to the stagnant air mass and high heat, storms may develop… but will pop up and drift in various directions. We can only wait for them to form and then start to track them. This slider is just an idea of how that might happen. It is not precise in timing or location.
