The former Tropical Storm Cindy is not here yet but already has charged the atmosphere. The combination of that and a cold front has prompted the severe thunderstorms today, but we need to look at this event in two parts:

Part 1: The slight risk (which means greater chance) is in a strop across the mountains and into southern Pennsylvania. That is where a Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued until 10 PM. Some rain has spread across metro Washington DC around 4 PM, but the severe storms have been farther north near Harrisburg PA. See the Doppler Radar snapshot below.

 

NOTE: Shore range modeling has been poor, so I do not have a track on these showers… just expect a pass through central Maryland between 4:30 and 6:30 PM

Part 2:  The core energy surrounding Cindy will arrive overnight. Rain should spread through more of our area after midnight with the main push just before sunrise. That means heavy rain band passes early in the morning, then sets us up for a pretty good Saturday (weather wise). Here is the best timing to track
