Saturday Jan 14 – Icy icy mis is moving in on schedule this morning. I know if you do’t see it when you walk up you start to wonder, but this fits the timeline laid out yesterday.  Winds off of the Bay and the trend I mentioned for systems verifying north has led to an adjustment today. The Winter Weather Advisory was dropped for Annapolis, Washington, and southern Maryland. While the timing of arrival is close to what I showed yesterday, my snow map will be wrong. I did shift things north, but not enough. The easterly winds and boundary will also lead to more of a wintry icy mix and less snow. I also want to point out that the pavement has some of the recent heat retained, plus daytime solar energy which will help to keep many roads wet. So many in central Maryland will be upset that so many activities have been cancelled. There could be some morning problems traveling, but you should be OK by mid day into the afternoon… especially just south of Baltimore. I hope I conveyed that to you yesterday for your planning.

The biggest ice problems will be in the typical north and west zones from Baltimore plus northeast. Cecil County has been added into the Winter Weather Advisory. I see ice problems lasting into the evening in:

  • Caroll
  • Northern Baltimore/Harford
  • Cecil
  • Southern PA (York/Lancaster)

Check out the radar simulation and pay attention the temperatures.

We may have a refreeze issue overnight with clearing and cooling temps.
