April 6 2016 – There may be a time when even the most fervent snow lover say enough already. Saturday may push the envelope for me and many as we will have snow most of the day. Personally both of my boys have their Little League baseball opening ceremonies Saturday, so this is not what we want. They may have a ‘snow-postponment’ like the Yankees and Red Sox did earlier this week, but that doesn’t make them feel like big leaguers. Here’s a quick look at the snow expected, then see more notes below.

It should be snowing when you wake up on Saturday, then last most of the day.
High Temperatures: Saturday May Stay Below Freezing North/West Of Baltimore
If you have been reading my updates, then this is no surprise. The first signal of this potential round of snow was seen last week. But as I reminded many of my clients today, think back to early March. We had snow on a Thursday night into Friday morning March 4. Temps were below freezing. But the ground was too warm for road stickage. However the grassy areas and trees collected the snow.
It is possible to get accumulating snow in April. In fact the date on Saturday, April 9 had 3 inches in Baltimore, but that record is 99 years old dating back to 1917. The latest trace was on May 11, 1951. So it is possible. But the best chance for stickage will be north and west of I-95 in the typical colder spots. However, snow should fall across most of Maryland, Virginia, and Delaware at some point. But the best chance or accumulation will be across southern Pennsylvania.

Here is a look at the GFS Model showing the potential snowfall. I DO NOT believe this will be the results, but I know some snow amounts are being tossed around, so I wanted to show this to you and explain why. Please keep in mind
- Most roads likely to stay wet.
- Flakes will be lost to melting.
- Where snow stick, it will be heavy and wet, so compacts.
- Most of the snow will be during the day, so it will compete with a stronger April sun angle.
- Elevation will increases chances for stickage.
*I reserve my snow forecast until less than 48 hours away. I will have my first call for snowfall Thursday evening.
