Saturday Snow And Sunday Freeze Near Record Cold

Saturday Snow And Sunday Freeze Near Record Cold

April 8 2016 – You will notice the colder winds today, but the system of concern will arrive overnight. This should bring another round of accumulating snow to the mountains of western Maryland, but this time farther east as well. Let’s jump right to the storm track, then more info below. You will notice that snow showers reach in to southern Maryland and the beaches.

Snow will arrive between midnight and 6 AM

Notes:

  • We should all see snow on Saturday
  • Snow will arrive between midnight and 6 AM Saturday for many. You should see it in the morning, then there will be another push in the evening
  • Stickage: This will depend on timing and location. Mid day sun angle will keep roads wet, but early morning and evening snow might accumulate on grassy areas.  Best chance north/west of Baltimore in higher terrain. Eastern Shore will get their best shot later afternoon and evening.
  • Parts of Carroll Co, northern Baltimore, and southern PA have the best chance to get over 1 inch.
  • This snow ‘potential’ map is from the GFS model but does not account for what will melt on warm ground. Roads would be the LAST place to get accumulation.

*I will post a more detailed snow potential map later this afternoon.

Near Record Cold To Follow

The record for Sunday morning is 22°F in 1985. It will be close with the forecast within a degree. But it will be VERY COLD with a hard freeze likely. That is more that 6 hours below freezing and a crop killer.

Freeze Warning/Freeze Watch

I expect the Watch will be upgraded to a Warning for more counties as we get closer. This is BAD NEWS for many area farmers.
