Spring Essentially Begins Today

Screen Shot2016-03-07 05_52_00Monday March 7 – You might wake up with frost, but the afternoon for most (away from the water) will reach the 60s. That is a nice 30 degree bounce, but not out of the ordinary in March. It is the pattern shift this week that will allow us to have up to 4 days this week near or above 70°F. Compared to average highs that should be in the lower 50s… We may even challenge a record high one or two days.

This weekend is the start of Daylight Saving Time. Just under 2 weeks until Spring formally begins, but at this point it will feel like it. That does not rule out one more cold shot or even snow. March is a fickly month. But the outlook for the next two weeks keeps us well above average temps.

High Pressure will be locked in a location off of the Southeast coast, helping to pump in some of that southern heat, but also blocking a stormy pattern that will hit the deep south and central US hard mid week. While we benefit from a dry week and warm temperatures, repeating severe storms and heavy rain will lead to extensive flooding. Some of that energy will reach us next week, but in a diminished form.

Let’s focus on the temperatures first, then a look at the rainfall and storms:
