What difference a year makes! November 27, 2015, the day after Thanksgiving… Baltimore’s BWI reached a high of 68°F. This was 16 degrees above the average of 52°F, but below the record of 74°F set in 1896.  A great day for neighbors hanging their lights. It was just one year ago when it actually felt like Christmas.  On November 26-26, 2014 when we had an early season snowstorm. That term depends on your location since the ground was warm and Baltimore stay above freezing. Still, the airport recorded 0.3 inches of snow but it melted quickly.  However between 2 to 5 inches fell west and north with stickage just a few miles outside the beltway.

If you think this is an extreme swing to the warm side in just one year, it’s not the first. Among the many, what stands out to me is the infamous December 5th snow date. Just before the we began our string of first snows on December 5th, that date in 2001 brought us our record high temperature of 75°F, then 2002 had the record snowfall of 6.8″. That swing was to the cold side.

Here is a look at the snow reports from that event.  This represents a typical spread with more in the higher elevations and away from the warmth of the Chesapeake north and west. Thundersnow: You might remember there was a loud clap of thunder that was heard in a 60 mile radius in the middle of that day (before Thanksgiving). If you miss the snow and fear you will lose your Faith in the Flakes, keep in mind that we had no virtually no snow (0.2″) in December last year, but still were able to come back with an above average season.

It was such an unusual event to have a White Thanksgiving, I wanted to recap the top photos for you. There were many! Here is a look how many spent Thanksgiving last year, with a preview of winter. My family had a snowball fight and built two snowmen: One was a Minecraft Creeper, the other was Olaf.  I’ve posted my video of slow motion snowfall from that event. But the rest of the photos around the region came from so many. Thanks again to all that keep sharing and enjoy this trip down memory lane:
