Stormy Shore: Second Day Of Flooding In Ocean City and DE Beaches

The storm that brought one to three inches of rain on Monday between northern Ocean City and southern Delaware was enough. That came with vivid lightning, a loud round of thunder, and an array of rainbows to finish. This second day in a row with explosive storms arrived at lunch time, closing the beaches earlier.  Marine Warnings were posted for winds exceeding 40 mph. The rainfall again over 1 inch in one hour led to more flooding. This whirlpool from Danny Smith was in north Ocean City on 135 St and Sinepuxent Ave. and shows the rain too much for this storm drain

Many who have visited our local beaches know they are prone to flooding in heavy rain. This is common along the coast where there is little room to drain to the ocean. But like yesterday’s storm, eventually the water does run out and there is little worse for the wear, with the exception of perhaps water damage to vehicles

Check out the photos compiled by Danny Smith visiting. It appears like yesterday, much of the problems have been north Ocean City to Delaware.  A sharp drop off of rain doth of Rt 90 in OC. The recorded Doppler Radar animation below also shows that.  Will there be more? It appears yes. The front still has to move through later today. I will follow up with a short term forecast and radar simulation shortly.
