Monday June 21 2021

Well that storm complex lived up to expectations. What erupted between 5 PM and 8 PM in central Maryland led to dozens of storm reports, primarily of wind damage to trees and power lines. I hope may reports here have helped you prepare with proper expectation.

We are not done yet. The first line is backfilling around the north Chesapeake Bay. Another line is moving east from the mountains and once again I believe we will get more than model guidance shows. See the live radar and simulation below.

There are so many photos and videos to sort through. I wanted to share just a couple here, then you can explore more that have been shared on my social media. There are hundreds!

More Bark On Kent Island

Rich Langford captured this and said there was no rain there. This photo was as the shelf cloud was crossing the Chesapeake Bay.

Storm Spotter Damage Reports

Dozens of areas with tree and or power outages as of 8 PM.

This is the preliminary map of the path of destruction. More reports are likely to fill in before this is complete. But already there were dozens of reports.

This photo was from my friend Larry Rogers in Pasadena MD/Riviera Beach.

He did get hit with heavy rain, and as you can see there are hundreds of follow up reports.

Radar Simulation: HRRR Model

The recent simulations have underperformed. I wanted to document that here, and expect to get more than is shown in central Maryland.

Sunshine State Of Mind

I am done with the cold and snow (for the season). I am embracing my wife’s mantra of Sunshine State of Mind.

This was designed by Shannon Berk and we will be wearing it through spring and to the beach.

Double Benefit: Proceeds will be split between our nonprofit Just In Power Kids and the development of my new weather website. That has been scheduled to be ready to launch in May.
