June 16 Rare Cool Pattern Then Hot Again This Weekend

I think most people had agreed that yesterday was one of the top 10 weather days of the year. BWI hit 81ºF, but most of the region remained in the 70s. Today will be very similar, perhaps a degree or two cooler.

Morning Temperatures

Just before sunrise, we saw the influence of this rare June air mass contrasted with the Urban Heat Island.

60s: Baltimore, Annapolis, and Washington.
50s: Inland and much of Delmarva.
40s: York County PA and far western Maryland.

Morning Surface Weather

High Pressure continues to carve out really pleasant weather in the eastern US. The heat and humidity will begin to return tomorrow and Saturday.

Humidity and heat will return for the weekend. That will bring storms Saturday, then a slight improvement for Fathers Day.

Next week we watch for a tropical system possibly hitting the Gulf Coast and sending rain to the Mid Atlantic.

Looking Ahead

According to the National Hurricane Center, there is an 80% Chance of Tropical Development in the Gulf Of Mexico. That system is expected to make landfall on Louisiana Saturday, then move into the Carolinas. It will pass south of our region, but may still send moisture our way.
