May 21 Weather Cooler Today Then Hot Again This Weekend

Did you notice the cooler breeze yesterday? Temps were soaring again in the morning, but as soon as the wind shifted from the east, the warming halted in the late morning.

Here are the observations from BWI showing when that happened.

Temperatures Observed on Thursday

A quick jump t 83ºF at 10 AM, then it leveled off for a few hours. The push mid afternoon was only 3 degrees higher.

Winds on Thursday

The winds from the east and southeast increased to 15 mph. That is what kept the air cooler and improved the air quality.

Morning Surface Weather

Today we are in that air mass to begin, so the temps will be held in check between the mid 70s to near 80ºF, while the heat will be pushed well inland.

That heat will return this weekend.

Wind Forecast

Friday to Saturday

The light east to southeast wind today will be helping to keep us cooler. Notice the shift in direction. That clockwise turn is a veering wind, and it will come in from the west and northwest on Saturday. That will bring the warmer air back, along with some scattered showers.

I have been watching this closely for a few area graduations.

It looks like the heat might be the main issue, but we will be watching an increased risk of scattered showers after 3 PM.
