Friday April 30 2021
Maybe it’s April going out like a lion. The cold front responsible for the strong showers we had yesterday and overnight, is moving towards the coast. Another front will build up the wind to dangerous levels this afternoon and tonight.
High Wind Warning
Winds up to 60 mph possible for central Maryland, Delaware, and southern Pennsylvania.
Winds 40 to 50 mph for the rest of the region.
Wind Forecast
It is important to consider the leaves on the trees act like a sail, catching more wind. That increases the impact of the force, and why expectations are for:
- Breaking Tree Limbs (flying debris)
- Downed Trees (avoid hiking in the woods)
- Power Outages (track them here)
- Secure or bring in potted plants and lawn furniture
Peak Gusts
Forecast Animation: 10 AM to 10 PM
Peak winds will be mid afternoon, but remain strong through tonight.

Friday Afternoon

Strong breeze remains, which should limit frost formation.
Saturday Afternoon
Next Week
We will be in a wet pattern next week. Almost each day will bring in a chance for rain or thunderstorms. That does not mean complete washouts, but it will be soggy at times.
Animation: Monday morning to Friday Evening
Showers and storms will make up for the mostly dry April. This pattern will culminate with a coastal storm possible on Friday. That would be important in adjusting the jet stream by next weekend.
Temperature Outlook
We begin to warm up again by Sunday.
I believe this model may be running a little cooler, so we can see the a day or two into 80s again next week. That will depend on how much sun we can get before afternoon storms form.
The longer range is more likely to trend to ‘normal’ (lower 70s).
Sunshine State Of Mind
I am done with the cold and snow (for the season). I am embracing my wife’s mantra of Sunshine State of Mind.
This was designed by Shannon Berk and we will be wearing it through spring and to the beach.
