January 18 MLK Day Weather

Monday January 18 2021

We start this MLK Day near seasonal conditions. Temperatures are cold, but near average as we are in the middle of this first advertised arctic push. There is one piece of upper level energy (vort max) that will swing through today. This will help increase the clouds and possibly help drop a few snow or rain showers.  The persistent snow remains in the mountains of western Maryland.

Forecast Snapshot: Central Maryland

The best chance for any light showers will be within an hour or two of noon.  The next few days should be dry, with the next cold push on Wednesday.

Looking Ahead:

For now, just a sample of the temperatures over the next week.  There is one possible weather maker next Monday/Tuesday. But I caution any attention based on poor model performance. Since our mid December snow event, each week has shown ‘something’ 8 to 10 days away that has not played out.

I continue to have low confidence in the long range model guidance. This include the impacts of the Polar Vortex Disruption, which I will address in my evening report.
