In this extremely active hurricane season for the Atlantic Basin, the 18th storm was named today in the Gulf of Mexico. Tropical Storm Sally is located just west of south Florida and is on a familiar path towards the northern Gulf of Mexico near New Orleans.
The warm water and improving conditions will slow down the speed and allow this to possible become a hurricane before landfall. Hurricane and Storm Surge Watches are already in place. Also, rainfall between 10 to 15 inches near the center are forecast.
Here is a collection of resources for you to track this storm through landfall and beyond. This includes: Satellite views, live radar, interactive widgets, computer model plots, and National Hurricane Center maps, statements, and warnings.

Computer Model Forecast Plots
Computer Model Forecast Intensity
Forecast is over 80% likely to become a Category 1 hurricane before landfall.
Note the bottom is forecast time.
- 24 Hrs = Sunday afternoon
- 48 Hrs = Monday afternoon
- 72 Hrs = Wednesday afternoon (should be post landfall)
Computer Model Forecast Tracks
The center of the projections is just east of New Orleans. Recent storms have verified farther west than initially thought. So this needs to be considered for a wide region.
After landfall this could get stuck in the south and spin out, or curve up to the northeast. That would be an issue for the end of next week.
