Wednesday Evening September 9 2020
There is a storm off of the US East Coast that is tropical in nature but not named. There is a lot of moisture flowing our way, and the satellite shows what looks like healthy development.
The set up on Thursday will push waves or bands of rain and heavy downpours that can quickly dump 1 to 3 inches on some spots. That is what a Flash Flood Watch has been issued. But the rain will extend farther inland. See the model maps and see your local forecast below.

Visible Satellite Loop
Check out this view up to sunset today. The structure looks healthy and tropical. Look closely and see if you can spot the circulation (swirl) east of OBX. This is not where the Low Pressure has been identified, but it looks like it is trying.
Evening Set Up
Here is the Infrared Satellite, which colors in the higher cloud tops. I’ve annotated the measured Low Pressure, which is well to the south of all of the convection (storm clouds).

Here is a wider view, showing the fire up of highest could tops in red. This is where the tropical downpours will be generated from:
Computer Models Forecast Maps
I want to restate on recored that the computer guidance has underestimate the rainfall and storms in many events over the past month. That is why there is anticipation that more will fall than shown here.
Compare the HRRR Model slider to the ECMWF and GFS interactive widget below.
I will have another update in the morning.
HRRR Radar Simulation –> slider
We will watch the heave rain bands move in from the southeast. They should expand across the region at daybreak and become more widespread by noon.
