September 3 Severe Storm Risk Radar Simulation Timelines

Here we go again! Another round of severe storms is expected today. The Enhanced Risk from NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center means we can expect numerous cells this afternoon and tonight with the potential for damaging winds over 60 mph, large hail over 1 inch diameter, a few tornadoes, and flash flooding.  Storms that don’t reach severe limits could still produce dangerous cloud to ground lightning.

Tropical moisture connects from east Texas along that same front that will bring us severe storms later today.

The weather is already very active across the Ohio Valley. Individual cells are moving to the northeast, but the line is moving our way.

Prime timing for our severe storms will be 4 PM to midnight, but showers could develop before then.

When the wind is from the Southeast along the Chesapeake Bay, that often helps enhance storm potential east of the mountains and in metro areas.
