Thursday August 27 2020

This is a very powerful and destructive storm. It is inland, away from its energy source of warm water, but there is a lot of spin left over to spread across the southern US.

As of 5 AM CDT, winds are 110 mph, the upper end of Category 2. Laura’s forward speed is 15 mph, and it is 45 miles from Lake Charles, LA.

Hurricane Force winds reach 60 miles from the center. Tropical Storm Force winds reach 175 miles from the center.

This will track through Arkansas by tonight, then across the mid Mississippi Valley Friday, and curve our way in the Mid Atlantic Saturday.

Here is the latest info and images. You will also find a new Hurricane Laura Resource Center page to track beyond landfall.

Here is the HWRF Model projection showing the Low Pressure tracking inland than linking up with a cold front to turn into the Mid Atlantic.

It could possibly redevelop into a Tropical Storm as it moves east of Ocean City.

Locally, we could get heavy rain on Saturday, then improve on Sunday. It’s very hard to determine the precise amount since it’s based on how Laura holds together when inland. Stay tuned…
