Something strange is afoot at the Circle K. Locally the humidity returns for us, brining back more heat and some showers and storms into the weekend. Nothing unusual about that, and I have the local rain timeline below.
But all eyes on two developing tropical cyclones are expected to be named shorty and enter The Gulf of Mexico at the same time early next week.
What first appeared to possibly tropical storms, they could both be hurricanes. If so, that has never happened on record. Check this out:
Tropical Satellite
It is a race to name the storms. T.D. 13 has strong enough winds, but a clear center. T.D. 14 has a center but the winds are not there yet (39 mph). The next two names will be Laura and Marco.
Forecast Winds At Least Tropical Storm Force
National Hurricane Center forecast product.
Only TWO times in recorded history were there two cyclones in the Gulf of Mexico at the same time of at least tropical storm strength (winds 39 mph +):
- September 5, 1933 (Treasure Coast & Cuba-Brownsville)
- June 18, 1959 (Unnamed and Beulah)
There were NEVER two hurricanes reported in the Gulf at the same time.
