Tropical Storm Isaias has tried to gain some strength today off of the coast of Florida. More importantly the track seems to have settled in to pass through Maryland on Tuesday. Since it will be moving faster, it will hold on to more intensity and will impact a lot of our region. Now is the time to take this seriously and come up with a plan. I will highlight them below.
I am doing this report in revers. Let’s look at each watch and corresponding forecast first. Then take a look at update on Tropical Storm Isaias, with the satellite and forecast track below.
There are two watches in place for the region.
- Tropical Storm Watch for winds between 39 and 57 mph
- Flash Flood Watch for a larger area that will get in on the heavy rain.
Tropical Storm Watch
The prime impact will be during the day on Tuesday:
Wind Forecast
I am using the NAM 3Km model for now. This shows the center of Isais crossings the lower Chesapeake Bay early Tuesday afternoon.
I will fine tune this for the model I think if performing best in my next post.
Wind Speed (average)
Wind Gust (peak wind)
Note: These wind speeds can move outside objects to your neighbors. It can also take down trees and power lines. This evening or Monday plan some time to secure outdoor furniture, boats (if you have one), and regular storms supplies of food, water and batteries
Flash Flood Watch
Rain Forecast
Much of Maryland around the Bay is expecting between the low end of 2 inches to 6 inches of rain on the high end.
Tropical Storm Isaias: Update from 5 PM
Tropical Storm Force Winds extend 115 miles from the center
The bulk of the activity remains on the eastern side of the center, but it is starting to wrap around.
Satellite Loop
The visible satellite stripped of color shows a much better view of the cloud structure.
