June 20 Weather Summer Begins Today WIth More Afternoon Storms

If you had rain last night, then you might have had fog this morning. There is more moisture around and we are still under the influence of the fading upper level Cut Off Low. You can watch it spin on satellite below.

In this snapshot, I highlighted the circulation. We will continue to get winds from the south, which means the storms will flow that way. The energy has shifted east, which will bring in a better chance of storms for the beaches. Any storm can produce flash flooding and dangerous lightning, even if not at the limit of being ‘severe’.

Short Term Forecast Notes:

Yesterday the modeling did a good job with the location and movement of storms, but there were more than shown. I posted on social media how I was dodging storms on a bike ride after 1 PM, while the modeling didn’t show the flare up after 3 or 4 PM. We should expect a similar set up today, so keep checking if you have outdoor plans.

Summer begins at 5:43 PM. That is when the sun reaches the highest latitude on Earth. While the days start getting shorted (by seconds), the temps continue to climb. The warmest time of year is during the second week of July.
