Wednesday January 8 2020
The snow yesterday was an overachiever leaving a wide range of 1 to 6 inches on the ground across our region. The net result of the initial melting and freezing temperatures this morning has led the expected icing and many school delays. Baltimore City is the only closure at this time, but they already had a half day scheduled.
Colder air is on the way today. Some snow showers or squalls will pass across the MD/PA border, then a Wind Advisory kicks with gusts to 50 mph. We are still expecting 60s this weekend with rain possibly for the Ravens game.
Morning Set Up
Fresh Snow? Some schools may need to reevaluate conditions due to slow thawing and a snow squall in the northern zones. This first snow squall could coat the ground with up to an additional 1 inch in northern Washington, Fredrick, Carroll, Baltimore, and Harford Counties before 8 AM. This also includes southern PA through York County.
Temperatures
In addition to the snow that fell, there was fog overnight keeping moisture in contact with the ground to freeze. Note that the ground can be a few degrees colder than the air temperature.

Looking Ahead
The next storm will be a rain event. It will be strong and we will be on the warm side. Temps will pump into the 60s on Saturday, with rain developing in the evening and at night. This could make the Ravens game wet (again)
Temperature Outlook
While we get back to a mild weather pattern, there will be more cold air and snow on the way. There is plenty of winter left.
