Wednesday October 2 2019

This weather is going to be a shock to the system. Today is starting with the feel of summer and the high temperature will break a new record in Baltimore. Many weather stations around the region will be in the top 10 hottest October days of their history. But today is the end of the stretch and a cold front will bring us back to real autumn weather. It is possible that temperatures tomorrow afternoon will be more than 30 degrees cooler than this afternoon!

October 2 Surface Weather

Record Heat

The standing record high in Baltimore on this date is 89ºF set in 1986. We could break that by noon and aiming for 94ºF.  But that is not the hottest the area has seen in the month of October. We can look back to a heat wave in 1941 where that mark was beat three days in a row.

Record Heat Wave

  • 97ºF in October 5, 1941
  • 95ºF in October 6, 1941
  • 96ºF in October 7, 1941

As noted in my prior report, that following winter had above average snowfall. The winter of 1941-1942 had 26.3″ of snow, or 32% above average.
