We have a risk for severe storms storm, but the bulk of the energy will be near and south of Baltimore. The system heading our way has already kicked off shower this morning, but it looks like the bulk of the afternoon will be busy tracking the developing weather.

Severe Storm Risk

Severe storms include the risk for damaging wind over 60 mph, large hail of 1 to 2 inches in diameter, isolated tornadoes, dangerous cloud to ground lighting, and flash flooding.

No Day At The Beach

I actually am still at the beach and it looks like an extended period of time for storms this afternoon and into the evening. Modeling suggests multiple strong thunderstorms are possible between 1 PM and 8 PM along the coast. As many who frequent here already know, strong storms in low lying areas like this can lead to flooding. That is a distinct possibility on Coastal Highway today with 2 to 4 inches of rain in multiple thunderstorms. I’ve highlighted this region in the radar simulation below.

Severe Storms

The enhanced region clips Washington DC and just south of Annapolis to southern Maryland. But the radar simulation below shows multiple storms with severe potential moving across the beaches between 1 and 8 PM.
