Saturday July 20 2019

We have another Excessive Heat Warning today, but you could have guessed that if you just step outside. Temperatures did not cool off much overnight, so starting in the 80s already has us aiming for the upper 90s. This will NOT be a record as the heat wave in 1930 still holds on the books, but the humidity is what is making this so dangerous. You might call it a ‘wet heat’ as this brings Heat Index values between 105ºF to 115ºF and limits your body’s ability to cool off.

Not A Record:

The record high for this date in Baltimore is 103ºF back in 1930. In fact this is the start of a 3-Day record stretch that year lasting into the weekend that we will likely not break.

  • July 19 Record High 103ºF in 1930 (High Friday = 97ºF)
  • July 20 Record High 102ºF in 1930
  • July 21 Record High 104ºF in 1930

Excessive Heat Warning Today

Today, much of the eastern US remains under the influence of the Heat Dome and shares in our misery. There are 21 states with an excessive heat warning.

Morning Surface Weather

The dominant heat dome will hold one more day, but we will get relief starting on Monday.
