Thursday July 4 2019
Hot weather on the 4th of July is almost expected, however we did have a run of cool wet days for a few years. Today will be back to the classic summer weather with high heat and perhaps some thunderstorms turning severe. With temperatures in the 90s and heat index around 100ºF, there will be plenty of energy for storms to possibly turn severe again. There is not much movement in the atmosphere so some storms could sit over the same area for a few hours.
See the radar simulation below. Most storms will erupt after 1 PM and peak between 4 PM and 6 PM, then fade around sunset. Hopefully this will not interfere with fireworks displays.
The marginal risk will be between the Bay and the mountains across central Maryland and Virginia. It is important to note that any storm can produce dangerous lighting even before the first drop of rain. Please listen for thunder and when it roars, head indoors.
