Today is a day that helps describe how the hills and mountains west and north of Baltimore often redirect weather systems. If you are reading this in metro Baltimore, Washington, or Annapolis to the Eastern Shore it may seem like a non issue. But it’s raining in northern Maryland and especially in southern Pennsylvania.

Dopper Radar at Noon shows the banding of rain that even the models are missing. Compare it to the simulation below.  Note that the places getting showers or steady rain are often the same that get more snow in the winter. It’s all about the terrain. Weather systems often ride along the mountains and hills west and north of Baltimore.  If you don’t get rain, a better chance to reach close to 70ºF today. If you get wet, more likely upper 50s to lower 60s.

High Temperatures 

If you stay dry, you have a better chance to get close to 70ºF. But cooler temps north of Baltimore and definitely in southern PA
