Tuesday July 24 2018
We now have the numbers to prove how epic this month has been for rainfall. There is some irony considering both how dry lawns were last week and we have NOT had a named tropical system. But the persistent rains have added up to the most rain Baltimore has recorded in over a century. As of midnight the monthly total rainfall for Baltimore was 10.97″, ranking 2nd on the list. But, BWI received an additional 1.01 inches up to 6 AM, so we are unofficially in the top spot now. The prior wettest July was 11.03″ in 1889. That 129 year old record was broken already this morning and we will continue to climb, perhaps with another daily record (1.73″ in 1961).
Record Rain Numbers: Long Standing Dates
- 11.98″ (10.97″+1.01″ up through 6 AM) in 2018
- 11.03″ in 1889
- 10.65″ 1905
- 9.68″ in 1945
- 9.43″ in 1884
