Wednesday November 8

Yesterday’s rain dropped 1.11 inches on Baltimore’s BWI with a high temperature of 51ºF. But it was cooler the afternoon with many in the lower 40s. Snow was falling and some stuck on the grass north of Harrisburg PA into the Poconos. The rain has pushed south but the cold air is here and will not recover much this afternoon. The rain will clip southern Maryland and keep Calvert and St. Mary’s Counties cooler in the 40s. A surge of colder air will arrive Friday and Saturday that will challenge the cold afternoon record and bring on a hard freeze Saturday morning. The pattern overall remains active with a few more rain events next that that will keep the chill around.

The colder air filtering in Friday will bring snow showers back to western Maryland and some area ski resorts.

Temperature Outlook

It’s going to get cold. The record in question this week will be the high in Baltimore on Friday November 10. The coldest afternoon on that date was 41ºF in 1933. The projection here is within the margin of error. The overnight lows (bottom chart) shows using the 20s Saturday morning. The red line is the freezing line.
