Thursday October 19, 2017
Today marks a unique day on the calendar pointing out how extreme weather can change from one end to the other across one year. On October 19th, the record high temperature of was set last year (2016), and just one year earlier (2015) the record low temperature. See the stats below showing the difference of 58 degrees on one calendar day. Yesterday Baltimore’s BWI did have a 42 degree spread from 39ºF to 71ºF across the same day. So October can really throw anything at us. After a few frosty mornings, the weather pattern will shift back to another warm stretch. Nights are growing longer by a few minutes each day, so the mornings will be cool, but the afternoons will be in the 70s all weekend and into early next week. The next round of rain on Tuesday will mark the leading edge of the coldest air of the season (so far). This shows a distinct shift in our set up to below average temperatures for the last week of October. So the longer outlook shows a chilly Halloween.
Stats For October 15
Normal High: 66ºF
Record High: 87ºF in 2016
Normal Low: 44ºF
Record Low: 29ºF in 2015
Sunrise: 7:21 AM

Outlook:
We expect a flip of the jet stream Yes, this warm and quiet pattern is the same old thing, and it will last into early next week. But then we will reverse our fortune for a chilly pattern that will hold for at least a week to close out the month.
Weather Animation
The big change will arrive next Tuesday with moderate rain. This will be followed by a strong push of colder air and maybe another system with more rain off of the coast. There will be some rain and snow showers developing in the mountains to our north and west as we aim for highs in the 50s and lower 60s taking us into Halloween.
