Thursday August 31

Just when you thought summer weather was gone, we have a little warm up. Today will be back in the 80s and it looks like we will get some more days in the 80s in time for Labor Day. But in between we have a cold front and the ghost of Harvey that will bring us a chilly rain. Below is a brief look and the outlook for Irma in the Atlantic. Please see my notes on that storm.

Today:

Temps will be warming to slightly above average levels… into the mid 80s for many. A cold front will be approaching from the north with a few showers possible late afternoon and evening. So clouds will be increasing during the day.

Ghost Of Harvey

This Tropical Depression will continue to weaken and fall apart. But it is like popping a water balloon with a slow leak, so flooding rain will still fall in the path. The rainfall expected in Maryland will start as showers late Friday. The main rain will be Saturday and will average about 1/2 inch. This system will move away Sunday and leave us with a nice Labor Day Monday.

Saturday Morning

The NAM model shows showers Friday night and this bulk of rain Saturday morning. If you are running in the Charles Street 12 Mile race it will be cool and damp.

This model is not impressive for the local rain and I think underdone Saturday morning. But I am showing this for the timing moving the complex out.

Labor Day: Clearing And Warmer

Temperature Outlook

After two days in the 60s with the passing of Harvey, temps will jump to the 80s early next week. Then we settle back to the mid and lower 70s.

Irma

This storm is expected to become a major hurricane in the next few days. It is nowhere near land, but should reach the western. Caribbean next week. Notice the National Hurricane Center track curving south by Day 5…

GFS Model

The longer outlook does show it near Bermuda and off of the east coast. However, I see the westerlies protecting us when it arrives. So high waves but the storm is more likely to stay well off of the coast next weekend.

Keep on Trekking

Continue to be part of our Maryland Trek and Support Cool Kids Campaign. This was our best event yet and we want the message to carry throughout the year.

Proceeds go to programs that help children and their families ensuring cancer treatment.
