Sunday July 23

The good news is that we do NOT have a Heat Advisory today, but that doesn’t take away form the uncomfortable humidity. Temps will aim for near 90ºF and the energy in the atmosphere is lined up again to bring us a few triggers for strong thunderstorms. The Slight Risk map for Severe Storms suggests some storms may reach severe levels but not all will. It often does mean we will have plenty of storms, like we did yesterday, and yet still some areas will miss out.  I want to also point out that the same areas that were hit before won’t necessarily see a repeat. All it takes is a slight shift in where the storms form, and then track along a different path.

For a storm to be considered severe and prompt a warning, it must contain: Winds over 60 mph, large hail over 1 inch diameter, and or Flash Flooding. Many storms will have frequent lightning, and the small chance of an isolated tornado.

The radar simulation below is a gauge but not a guarantee. Please see the notes below:

Notes:

  • Showers will develop by 2 PM and spread east
  • Storms may reach severe levels between 3 and 9 PM
  • The first round of storms may be slow movers
  • Overnight Storms: Another round may arrive after midnight. These will have less heat to act on and a lower chance to be severe.

Temperature Outlook

Near 90ºF will be into Monday, then drop in the lower and middle 80s mid week.  A slight warm up but remaining near normal int next weekend.
