July 1 2017
We start the day warm and muggy with plenty of cloud cover, but it will be this afternoon that we have the risk for severe storms. A strong cold front will have plenty of energy to work with and arrive during the peak heart of the day as we aim for the 90s again. The main threat from these storms will be damaging winds reaching 60 mph along with heavy downpours and frequent lightning. Some storms may contain large 1 inch hail or even an isolated tornado.
The moment of these storms should make for a duration of 30 to 60 minutes. The time frame will reach central Maryland between 2 and 5 PM. Around the Bay and Delmarva a little later between 4 and 8 PM to pay attention. But a closer look shows the main threat for the worst weather will be west and north of the Bay Bridge.

As I have shown all spring, these products have not been perfect, but do a better job with larger events. Here is the comparison of the HRRR Model and NAM 3 Km. The agreement is the time frame for central Maryland and southern PA between 2 and 6 PM and the storms fading on the Eastern Shore.
