Thursday June 22
Tropical Storm Cindy made landfall around 5 AM EDT in southwest Louisiana. Winds were 40 mph and the moisture field seems spread out very far. The influence of clouds dominates the eastern US. Only a stray storm this afternoon as temps reach near 90ºF. We are in for some big changes in what looks like an Autumn like pattern… The remains of Cindy will cross Maryland Saturday and then followed by a cool pocket in the jet stream. Despite the calendar closing in on July, we could see a day or two in the 70s next week.
Here is a look at the Water Vapor Satellite. Compare this still image to the loop below showing the flow of moisture. While the track appears to head our way, the storm will be in a much weakened form. We still could have storms Friday evening and a brief period of very heavy rain on Saturday, with possible severe elements and flooding.
