May 25 – A wet start this morning will give way to a few dry hours. But as Low Pressure forms and crawls overhead, another wave of thunderstorms will develop this afternoon and evening. You will notice the winds have increased. Gusts already measured between 15 and 30 mph, which will make holding an umbrella difficult and is sloshing water on the Chesapeake Bay and resulting in minor flooding.

If you have plans today, the best outdoor time will be a few hours after noon. But we need to watch for thunderstorms to develop. Regardless of severity, the risk of downpours and lightning may chase away after school sports. Temps will reach the lower 70s in central Maryland, but hold in the upper 60s on the north side in Pennsylvania.

The radar simulation below shows the movement of the morning showers to the north. But the afternoon push of storms will arrive from the west, behind the Low Pressure.

Temperature Outlook

Temps modify through the weekend, but we will have to watch the threat of afternoon showers Saturday. Sadly Sunday and Monday look wet.

Memorial Day Weekend

I will have more maps later this morning to track the weekend weather. The general idea:

  • Friday: Drying
  • Saturday: Mostly dry but afternoon showers west and south of Baltimore (in Virginia and southern Maryland)
  • Sunday:  Developing showers and storms will be widespread
  • Monday: Showers and storms.

Our 3 year anniversary of the release and our contribution to STEM education is this November. It has been downloaded in 60 countries, and works in both temperature scales. With your support we can expand on the fun introduction to science and real weather.
