Wednesday April 12 – We expected the 80s and they surely showed up. If you thought Tuesday was hot, it was. The high temperature at Baltimore’s BWI was 87ºF setting a new record for April 11. This broke the old mark of 85ºF set recently in 2011. Thanks to Facebook, I was reminded that I recorded and posted snow video on April 11, 2012… just one year after that old record was set. Early April definitely keeps on our toes being inconsistent.
The other headline might be the pollen explosion. After last week’s rain and recent heat, the spring fling thing is on for trees, grass, and plants. I was hoping to root on a cold front this morning to help take some of the pollen out of the air, but the showers will follow a classic pattern. As impressive as they may look on radar early this morning, the band of rain is likely to ride along the front ridge and then fade as it moves into the main metro area. Here is the radar simulation showing just that:

Mild But Not Hot
Today’s high temperatures should still reach the mid to upper 70s. Notice the HRRR Model is warmer than the GEFS Ensemble below. I will stick with the warmer solution…. But the outlook does trend cooler for a few days. Then another warm up for Easter Sunday. The rain should hold off until Sunday night, then back to reality next week. That would be the 60s.

Storm Smart: My STEM Assembly Program
Click here to see the details and how this educational program is also a fundraiser for schools. We can start scheduling for May now.
Get the award winning Kid Weather App I made with my oldest son and support our love for science, weather, and technology. Our 3 year anniversary of the release and our contribution to STEM education is this November. It has been downloaded in 60 countries, and works in both temperature scales. With your support we can expand on the fun introduction to science and real weather.
