Thursday February 9 – The change over to snow has occurred on schedule but the storm itself is speeding up. The biggest concern this morning is the morning commute as the transition to snow and then some road stickage may occur while people are out on the roads. There has been a lull in the action but the back edge of the snow will wing through with temps below freezing. So the prime time for this event will between 6 and 8 AM. By 9 AM, it should move away from our region.
Note: I live in the cold zone and had road stickage while air temps were still at 33°F. It’s all about the intensity overtaking the warm pavement. Within an hour of the change cover, we had 1 inch of snow and it is still doing its thing.
The National Weather Service has dropped a few ‘advisories’ as a result of this system not being as strong a projected. It still remains for Carroll, Baltimore, and Harford Counties. These same counties have school delays as well. The Winter Storm Warning remains for Cecil Co and southern PA. But that does not mean the rest are in the clear yet. There has been a lull in the precipitation around the transition zone, but a moderate band of snow still needs to swing through with colder temps.
Here is a quick look at the timelines for radar and temperatures. For the record, I am in the cold zone and the snow did overtake the pavement before temperatures dropped below freezing. It will be slush, but it could be slick where that intensity can win over the warmth.
