Warm Winds Today Then Still On For Weekend Snow and Ice

Thursday Jan 12 – The winds are whipping up this morning and some rain has been passing through. The good news is that fog has been limited and some may rejoice with morning temperatures in the middle 50s. That is just our starting point. The fast moving air aloft will help usher in a warm day that will reach the mid to upper 60s this afternoon. There is a Full Moon today! So considering the warm air, good luck teachers!

That is it for the spring preview. A cold front will slide past our region and stall just to our south Friday night. Along that same front, the next push of precipitation will be snow and ice on Saturday. FITF – Not a major storm, but enough to be a nuisance and perhaps limit your travel.

This looks like mostly a Saturday event, what many teachers would call a waste on the weekend. For what it’s worth, I don’t want my son’s basketball game to be cancelled. He scored 4 points and the team won our last game. We want that to continue!

The development of snow and ice will be along a stalled front. A strong High Pressure Center will be located to our north- resulting in cold air damming and locking the freezing temps in place for most in central and southern Maryland. The forecast highs may not reflect the actual temps with this event.

Baltimore/Washington Around 1 inch…the northwest suburbs: 1 to 3 inches
Mountains: Could get up to 4 inches
Annapolis to northern Delmarva: Perhaps an inch then freezing rain.
South of Rt 50: Much less, then rain. This is not your storm, but could start off slick Saturday morning.
