Thursday December 15 – Today will be an opposite day of sorts. The winds will pick up as the temperatures drop down. A Wind Advisory has been issued for today as gusts could reach 50 mph. Beware the ides of December as winter will be condensed into a two day period. Baltimore City has issued a Code Blue opening up facilities to help people deal with the dangerous conditions. This arctic blast from the Polar Vortex dropping near the US border will be intense as wind chills will stay or drop from the teens and single digits. The mountains of western Maryland will be well below zero.  There is a small chance of flurries or a snow shower this afternoon. Our next storm will arrive with snow and ice Friday night and Saturday morning.

Storm Starts And Ends With Snow, Warming In Between

Snow will arrive Friday night.  At this time, it looks like after 9 PM, but there is a window through 2 PM across our area. The initial burst could drop some accumulation and as typical there will be more near and north of Baltimore. There will be warming ahead of the storm as the Low Pressure tracks well to our Northwest. The GFS and Canadian models are in agreement on this but… The Canadian lingers the icy mix longer Saturday morning. Thew GFS brings in the thaw around sunrise Saturday, but a return to snow at the end on Sunday afternoon/evening. This could happen during the Ravens game.

Below are the tracks and timelines from both models plus their snow projections. I will get into more specifics with my snow outlook beginning with this evening’s post
