Wednesday December 14 – The arctic blast that has been advertised for many days is about to arrive. While there is not much moisture now, there is an upper level piece of energy (jet streak) that will be riding along the jet stream as the cold air arrive. Some light snow and rain will develop over central Maryland overnight, with a burst of snow getting briefly enhanced for an hour or two. This is just enough to be a nuisance, but long gone before the morning commute.

This kind of this is tough to track with precision. If the timing is off by an hour, it can shift the expected burst by 60 miles or so.  I have been suggesting to my clients with properties in Baltimore, Harford, and Cecil Counties that there could be a dusting up to 1 inch, but only salt needed. There may be more across northern Delaware as suggested by the HRRR Model below. Farther west or south of Baltimore the chances are slim for much, but this does bear watching for that timing and tracking issue. This will be done by 2 or 3 AM though.

The ground is cold, but its possible to have some melting and then re-freezing as temps drop into the 20s by morning. Reminder that Thursday will stay in the 20s with wind chills in the teens and single digits.

Very Cold Thursday Morning

Wind Chill (will stay like this most of the day)

Flurries or Snow Showers Thursday Afternoon

The upper level energy will support some flakes form the Great Lakes snow machine to survive over the mountains

I will have an update on the snow and ice for Friday night and Saturday morning in my evening post.
